Chinese New Year Celebration

Posted in Baby Memorables, Preschool Diaries | No Comments »

So Iyah had her first Chinese New Year celebration at school. After a few minutes of crying (more on that later) I left her with the rest of the nursery class to celebrate. I’m quite excited because this was her first class activity at school and almost everyone came in their ethnic costumes. This was Iyah’s Qi Pao dress that I’ve been talking about, it was a little too long for her but size 3 was a bit tight around the neck and armholes so I got the next size. Anyway she still look adorable in it. After the celebration all us moms decided to have their pictures taken at the playground (it’s good that they love to take pictures too) and we had some cute photos of the kids. I even had a photo of her and her teacher. All in all it was a nice day, I’m looking forward to the long holiday!

CNY celebration

Posted in Baby Memorables | No Comments »

So this Friday the little girl will have their Chinese New Year celebration at school. This is her first school activity and I’m quite excited. Looks like the Qi Pao dress I bought her solely for the purpose of taking pictures will be put to good use. I think it would be nice for her to know more about CNY and how it is traditionally celebrated, I don’t know much about it just like I don’t know a thing about nodular acne. After their activity at school it would be a long weekend for us, she doesn’t have to come to school until Wednesday next week (sweet!).

Iyah speaks

Posted in Baby Memorables | No Comments »

When she wants to tell me something: Mommy, I have to tell you something….look at me mommy. (She wants eye contact when she’s talking to me)
When I’m starting to get frustrated with her for one reason or another: Don’t be mad Mommy, Iyah loves you (I instantly lose all my frustrations).
When she goes to class: Bye, see you later Mommy.
When she spills water on the carpet (she would proceed to cover up what happened by attempting to clean up) and I ask her what happen: Oh it’s nothing.
When the door closes and there’s a loud bang I would ask her, ” What was that?!” she would answer: Don’t worry Mom it’s just the door.
When she wants her two small pillows all for herself and I ask her, “What about Mommy?” her reply would be: Oh we’ll get you a new one Mom. Let’s ask daddy for money.

Iyah thinks her Daddy has the answer for everything, especially when money is needed…lol. These are just little snippets of our daily conversations. It is so much fun talking to her, she constantly surprises us with the words coming out of her mouth….it is amazing how her mind works.

Kiddie Rides

Posted in Baby Memorables | No Comments »

Iyah love the kiddie rides at the mall. I always keep $1 coins in my wallet so if she sees a ride she likes I don’t have to search everywhere for coins. It helps that there are coin changing machines at some malls too, comes in handy when I only have bills. As you can see from the pictures above she really likes the rides, I do limit her to 2-3 rides each time and after that I will tell her I don’t have any money left to which she will reply with, “It’s okay let’s ask daddy for money Mom.” My daughter thinks her dad has the answer for everything, lol.

She knows how

Posted in Baby Memorables | No Comments »

My little girl sure knows how to melt my heart, sigh I can never stay mad at her. Whenever I’m a little frustrated with her for various reasons (she still wants to play even if it’s already her bedtime, she spilled water on the carpet for the nth time, her toys are all over the house) she would come to me in her and say, “Don’t be mad Mommy, Iyah loves you” I instantly forget all my frustrations and just want to give he a hug. How can a mom stay mad with a little girl saying I love you? She’s such a sweet little girl and I love her so much.

Just because

This was Iyah’s 3D ultrasound, she was exactly twenty weeks here. How amazing it is to see her an active, beautiful little girl now three years later. Reminds me of how blessed I am to be her mom.

Getting quotes

Posted in Baby Memorables, Preschool Diaries | No Comments »

I was getting tuition fee quotes from various kindergarten in our area yesterday and I thought it would also be a good time to get more insurance quotes while I was at it. I know the little girl just started nursery but I wanted to be prepared for next year when she goes to kindergarten 1. I promised myself while she’s in nursery I would let her be comfortable at school first, the environment, being with other kids her own age and having someone teaching her other than me. We do workbooks at home but I don’t put too much pressure on her, I want to make learning fun for her so she won’t get tired of school and learning new things.

My Preschooler

Posted in Baby Memorables, Preschool Diaries | No Comments »

Today was Iyah’s first day at nursery school. (January 6, 2010)

She didn’t have a uniform yet since I enrolled her to class only yesterday. The school wasn’t our first choice since it’s not really near our place (although it’s in the same area) but there was no available slot at the preschool school near our block.

Her first day went smoothly. When it was time for the students to go in and her teacher Miss Azlina was taking the students in the classroom she went in with her classmates and never looked back, not a single tear…she didn’t even checked to see if I was around but proceeded to sit on her chair. The teacher said I can go and wait outside since she seems to be coping well. I waited to hear a cry, but it never came. Come recess time I was able to see her with her class in through the glass doors of the snack room, and there she was sitting with her classmates drinking from her water bottle and eating biscuits. She was chatting with her teacher and classmates, no signs that she was scared or shy around others. I was standing there laughing by myself, all the worries about how she’s going to handle school are gone.

When the class was dismissed and each student came through the door, I saw her before she saw me and she looked like she was looking for me…like she knew I was going to be there after class. When she didn’t saw me right away I saw a little bit of worry in her eyes but when she saw me, she smiled and proceeded to tell me what she did at school. And then she said, “Now I’m so tired and too sleepy, can you carry me?”

I’m so proud of her. I’m a little sad that she’s a big girl now but this is such a big milestone and I’m so glad she did so well.

Off to school we go

Posted in Baby Memorables, Preschool Diaries | No Comments »

Today I enrolled Iyah to nursery school. I officially have a preschooler! I’m excited for her, I know she’ll have lots of fun at school spending time with kids her own age. I’m a little worried at how she will react when I drop her off, she’s so attached to me I worry that she might cry when she realize mommy won’t be with her in class. I’m also a little sad because she’s growing up so fast, tomorrow will mark the start of me having a school going kid.
She will only go for two hours five days a week, which I think is just right. I just want her to socialize with other kids and learn to share with others and wait her turn. Being an only child she’s use to having all the toys to herself so sharing is something we need to work on, I think preschool would be helpful in this area. I want her to learn the rest (like reading, math, chinese) at her own pace, for now I will be happy to watch her flourish and be with kids her own age. More than anything I want to raise a happy, well rounded and healthy little girl.

We’re both excited for tomorrow, mommy will be bringing a camera to document this huge milestone.

She loves pretzels

Posted in Baby Memorables | No Comments »

Can you tell from these photos? Lol.

She could finish one Auntie Anne’s cinnamon sugar pretzel, she likes it a lot. AA is only available in certain malls so we make sure we buy her one whenever we get the chance.
