13 NovMy seven month old cutie

It’s amazing how fast she is growing! I’m sure glad that I get to spend everyday with her and watch her reach every milestone, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know a lot of moms would love the chance to be full time mommies to their children and I’m grateful that I get the chance to do just that.

05 NovHer new job

I was talking to my friend the other night and she was giving me all the details on how she landed her new job. She’s been a full-time mom just like me so she was a little bit nervous when she took the plunge and started submitting her resumes online. She wasn’t sure how it will turn out, she was thinking she’s not qualified for Speech-Language Pathologist Jobs and that she needed to take extra courses for it. She used to work in human resources before she gave birth to her boys so she tried applying to similar positions, after two weeks she got several calls for interviews and two days ago she got a job offer from the firm she liked so she was so thrilled. I know she can’t wait to start her career once again, I wonder when will be my time…

03 NovThinking of gifts

There are times when I find it hard to buy gifts to give the birthday celebrant when we go to their parties. There’s just certain age of children that’s a bit tricky to shop for, like seven to ten year old kids regardless of gender. It’s that age when they might be too old to play with toys but you can’t know for sure, for all I know they will still appreciate lego sets or barbies. I wouldn’t know that would be appropriate bar mitzvah gifts either since I’ve never been to one. In cases like these I go for clothes, the safest choice there is. I know that it we useful, I just buy a size or two bigger to make sure there’s not going to be any fit issues.

02 NovI made my list

I’m already making my Christmas list this year with the hopes of getting everything way before the Christmas crowd starts shopping for their presents. I know I will have little time to shop around with two kiddos in tow so I’ll try to plan my shopping trips accordingly. I think I have Reading Glasses Sunglasses on my list but that’s easy to get given there’s three eye specialists shops at the nearby mall so that’s not in my list of priorities right now. Shopping for our godchildren and our kiddos on the other hand that’s another story, I have lots of kids on my list and buying toys and hauling them home would be challenging. Like I said I have to plan accordingly and hope that I get done way before our annual Christmas party.

17 OctEating solid food

Another milestone for our sweet baby Ella today. She had her first taste of solid food today. I was a little worried about starting her on solid food because I had a hard time with Iyah when she was a baby and until now she’s still a picky eater. When she turned six months I knew I had to do it so I did my researched, gathered my supplies and went to the grocery for fresh produce. I was determined to make homemade baby food for her and not feed her anything store bought so I went ahead and bought a mini blender to use for making all the food. I also got baby cubes so I can store her food in small portions and freeze some to last for a week.

Her first food was potato, and she finished it down to the last spoonful without fuss, I was so happy! I hope she continues to be a good eater. Aside from potatoes she also had carrots, cauliflower, bananas, apples, butternut squash and rice cereal. She like every single food I fed her so far. She takes in a little bit of water/juice but I’m hoping she’ll drink more once she’s use to the taste of something other than milk in her bottle. I plan to buy her a sippy cup soon as well just to try if she’ll drink more using it.

From babycenter.com

Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’
Your baby’s stronger neck and arm muscles allow him to practice rolling over toward one side, a milestone that will probably awe and amuse you. Your baby might adopt rolling as his primary mode of ground transportation for a while, or he may skip it altogether and move on to sitting, lunging, and crawling. As long as your baby continues to gain new skills and shows interest in getting around and exploring his environment, don’t worry.

Rolling over can be fun for your baby, but it can also be nerve-racking for you. Keep a hand on your baby during diaper changes, and never leave him unattended on a bed or any other elevated surface.
Your little social butterfly
At this age your baby not only tolerates attention from others, he’ll often initiate it. Though you may soon notice the beginnings of stranger anxiety, your baby will probably still be fairly indiscriminate: Chances are anyone who approaches him with welcoming eyes or a grin delights him and becomes an instant friend. But don’t worry — he still needs and craves lots of love and attention from you.

Your baby is also learning that his behaviors, both the ones you like and the ones you don’t, engage you, so starting now (and for years to come) he’ll do just about anything to get your attention. Right now almost everything he does is endearing, but as he gets older, he’s more likely to get into mischief to provoke a reaction from you. Just don’t forget to give him positive feedback when he’s being good. It’s a great way to start teaching right from wrong.

One thing will become clear: Your baby is beginning to expand his attention-getting repertoire to include more than crying. You may notice him wriggling, making noises, blowing “raspberries,” and so on. Over the next three months, he’ll develop a uniquely personal way of letting you know what he thinks, wants, and needs.
Dressed for success
As your baby starts becoming more active, he’ll appreciate wearing comfy clothes. Opt for soft fabrics that won’t chafe him as he’s moving around. Loose, stretchy, and breathable clothing is also smart as it provides your energetic little one plenty of wiggle room.

Avoid clothes with rough or scratchy seams; long ties, buttons, or bows (could be a choking hazard); and anything else that gets in the way of your baby’s sleeping, crawling, playing, or other regular activities.
In your baby’s diaper
Don’t be surprised if your baby’s stools change color and odor as soon as he starts eating even tiny amounts of solids. This is normal. If his stools seem too firm, switch to other fruits and vegetables and oatmeal or barley cereal. (Rice cereal, bananas, and applesauce may be constipating.)

20 SepReminiscing my preggo days

When I was pregnant with my second baby I had terrible backaches and was having a hard time finding a good sleeping position that I contemplated on getting a body pillow to help me sleep better. As my pregnancy progressed I naturally became heavier and with that more backaches and water retention. It was challenging but I continued with my normal activities such as taking my daughter to school everyday, there were days that it wasn’t easy but I pushed through. Walking was normal part of my day up until I went into labor, in fact walking up eleven flights of stairs helped me go into labor (lol).

20 SepAlmost at the end

I keep thinking how close we are to the end of the school year, just a few months away from finishing K1 and I’m just amazed at how much my little girl have grown. I know she’s learning a lot at school and making friends too. It won’t be long before she asks me for proflowers to give her teachers at the end of the school year. She will surely miss her friends once school vacation starts but I’ll be prepared for activities to do together she’ll have fun at home too.

15 SepHer special day

A friend of mine from college who will be getting married this December emailed me a copy of their save the date cards last night and it was so cute and unique. They will be having a simple ceremony with close family and friends and I’m sure it will be meaningful and memorable for her. I wished I can be there for her big day, it would be nice for my little girl to walk down that aisle as a flower girl but alas we can’t go home this year. We wish them all the best of course and I’ll just wait for the pictures which I’m sure will be beautiful.

14 SepShe rolled over

Sept. 14, 2011 around 2:00pm.

Ella made another baby milestone today, she rolled over for the first time! It was so exciting to see her finally do it on her own like she’s been doing it for a long time. She’s been rolling over on her side for about a month and a half now and I was just waiting for her to take the plunge. I know for sure that I can’t leave her on the bed now, oh my definitely not. This is the start of the tricky phase where she will be curious and explore her surroundings so I have to keep an eye on her to make sure she is safe. Next month it will be another great milestone, first solid food! Ahhhh we’re cruising through babyhood like pros and I love it. :)
